Transition to P1

Transition to Primary 1

May 2020

This section of the school website has been created to support our new Primary learners due to start at Newtongrange Primary School in August 2020.

During the months of May and June we would normally be welcoming you into Newtongrange Primary School to support the transition from nursery to primary for your child. However due to the current pandemic this has not been possible and we are looking at other ways to get to know you and your child.

We have included on this page information all about starting school at Newtongrange Primary School for you and your child.  Please spend time exploring the resources with your child and talk about starting school with them.

Throughout June, we are going to have a transition theme for all our new Primary 1 children. This will be based on a popular children’s story. We will post weekly activities on this page.  This will begin on Monday 1st June 2020.

We are also busy creating transition packs, which we will deliver to your home containing further information about starting school, including who your child’s teacher will be.  We are aiming for these packs to be with you by the 1st June 2020.

We know this is a very difficult time for us all right now and we hope that the information on this page, letters, emails and activities will help you and your child.

Please check this page for further transition updates including the virtual tour of our school!

We are very much looking forward to you becoming part our Newtongrange Primary School community.

Midlothian Council Early Learning and Childcare to Transition Update

April 2020

Starting school is an exciting time. Although there may be uncertainty around what moving to P1 will look like we want to reassure you that staff are working hard behind the scenes to think about and plan this important time for children.

As soon as plans are finalised your child’s ELC setting and school will be working together with you to put these plans into action.

Our staff teams across ELC and Primary 1 are working together to make sure that P1 is ready to meet the needs of all children given these highly unusual circumstances.

Should you have any specific concerns please contact us using the  mailbox and include ELC to P1 transition in the subject box.

We have created a dedicated page for parents and carers of children who are due to start school in Primary One in August 2020. We will post information about meetings and events leading up to your child’s start date with us. Please visit regularly for updates.

We look forward to meeting you in due course and hope you find this page helpful.

Kind regards

Vicky Morgan
